New Favorite Beau-Tubers

In my last post, I mentioned my desire to declutter my house and I’ve been working diligently on doing just that little-by-little.  I started with my makeup for a couple of reasons, the first being I just had way too much and not enough room for it even though I am not a beauty vlogger.  You might be wondering, well how did you accumulate that much in the first place?  The answer to that, my friends, is YouTube.  YouTube, more specifically the beauty community (or Beau-Tubers/The Beautiful People Community, as one of my favorite Youtubers, Jenna Marbles, calls them) made me do it.

If you’re new here, I’m a 26-year-old working mama to a 19 month (year-and-a-half, whatever) old girl, so my priorities have shifted along with my style.  I’m not trading in my Chuck Taylor’s for Keds & Mom Jeans any time soon, but I also don’t have any desire to continue caking on my foundation, attempting to contour, or blending out a smokey eye for 45 minutes everyday.  I’m going for a different, more natural aesthetic these days and along with my new style, I’ve been searching for new YouTubers to follow that enforce that so that I don’t find myself neck deep in full coverage foundation again.  It’s too heavy and too glam for every day, you know?

Aside from my desire for a different look, I’m tired of the never ending sponsored content and PR unboxing videos that have made the beauty community feel like a 24/7 infomercial for various high end brands.

If you, like me, are tired of the recycled trends (I’m looking at you, mermaids, unicorns, and matte lipsticks!) and lip fillers, and you’re interested in some new Beautiful People who don’t have a cult following, give the girls below a go!

  1. EmilyNoel83
Emily is one of the beauty gurus I’ve been watching the longest, but she is the exception to the rule.  While she is very near 1M subscribers, she’s honest and real, even when it comes to products she receives as PR.  If she doesn’t like something, she’ll tell you, and if she loves something, it’s because she’s tested it for more than the length of a video.  She uses equal parts drugstore & high end makeup, and her looks are very wearable without being boring.  She’s a good one!  I rarely buy anything any more without watching her review first because she’s never steered me wrong.
  2.  Rachel (RachhLoves)
Rachel is a breath of Canadian fresh air.  She’s basically a beaming ray of sunshine with refreshing content every single week.  I discovered her about a year ago and I’ve watched religiously ever since.  She recently did a video in which her husband did a surprise scavenger hunt with her makeup and she had to do a look with it at the end, and it was great!  I also love that she has more to offer than just makeup, and regularly tests Pinterest ‘hacks’ and tricks, which I enjoy because you can only watch people fill in their eyebrows for so long, y’know?
  3. Sarah Therese
Another Canadian, Sarah is a very recent find of mine and I have been loving her content!  She inspired me to cut back on the amount of makeup I wear with this video that demonstrated a combo of all of the Instagram and YouTube makeup trends.  She got a lot of hate in the comment section but she didn’t always have such clear skin and she has other videos that explain how she fixed it.  Wouldn’t we all like to be able to clear up our skin and not have to use as much makeup? At the end of the day, makeup is all about personal preference, so do you, girl.  I just liked her slightly more minimal style and that she wants her skin to still look like skin, even if it’s not 100% flawless.  She’s an oily skin gal if you’re looking for someone with skin like yours!
  4. Jessica Braun (JamBeauty89)
Jessica is one of the only women I watch on YouTube who also has a day job and I like that in a beauty guru.  Somehow, it makes me trust her opinion even more?  I also love that she’s forever decluttering makeup she no longer wants, ’cause y’all know I’m trying to simplify this year. Her reviews are very unbiased and I absolutely love her personality.  I’ve been watching her long enough that it feels like we’re old friends, and now that she’s expecting her first baby, I’m excited to see her baby related content (if & when it comes).

I’m always on the hunt for new channels (and not necessarily makeup related!) so if you have ideas, I’d love to hear your recommendations.
